John Durtnall
an EPOS professional specialising in Vectron systems, with additional expertise in ICR Touch, providing remote programming, configuration, and technical support for hospitality and retail environments.
I began my EPOS career with Abacus EPOS (Brighton), working with Jim Hopkins to support system builds, configuration, and fault diagnosis. In 1998, I programmed my first Vectron systems, a POS 32 for Bankers Fish & Chip Restaurant, and 6 networked POS Colourtouch terminals linked to Vectron Commander and Superstock for the Brighton Palace piers, Palm Court Restaurant. by the end of my time with Abacus, Brighton was Nicknamed “Vectron City” by the then Geller south sales Manager Gary Ransom with over 200 vectron installs in brighton alone.
After a short time of co-owning and running a restaurant (of course, running Vectron terminals)

I then ran my own EPOS business, CHESS EPOS Ltd, It was a Geller Dealer and a Vectron Main Dealer, and also delivering subcontracted programming and remote support services to EPOS dealers. Following this, I worked with Ryedale Cash Registers (North Yorkshire), where I provided dealer-facing technical support with a strong focus on Vectron system programming and configuration.
My technical capabilities include:
• Vectron EPOS programming, configuration, and updates
• Table, PLU, pricing, tax, and department structures
• Multi-terminal and multi-site deployments
• Secure remote diagnostics and fault resolution
• First- and second-line dealer support
• Live-site assistance during trading hours
I also supported ICR Touch since its first release in 1999, including menu programming, button layouts, pricing changes, and remote troubleshooting. and the CES software from when it was sold as Geller Touch
I am experienced in working on live systems with minimal disruption, documenting changes clearly, and integrating smoothly into dealer workflows. I operate strictly on a trade-only basis, do not engage directly with end customers, and can provide support under dealer branding where required.
With my in-depth knowledge of business administration and computer science, I moved into consulting. Over the past few years, I have had the privilege of working with a wide range of clients, from established corporations to innovative startups. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the unique challenges that companies of all sizes face.
When I’m not strategising or solving problems, I find inspiration in exploring new cultures and immersing myself in the ever-evolving world of technology. This continuous learning allows me to offer my clients the most cutting-edge solutions and insights.
I have always Said “If the system can’t do It I will try and come up with a way to Do it”
